A Non-Merit vacancy exists in Communicable Disease and Environmental Health, Department of Health and Human Services.
Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

Under close supervision, assists nurses, physicians, and other health professionals in providing health services to individuals, families, and groups in homes, communities, and public or employee health centers.
Examples of Essential Duties
- Assists clinicians in the direct care of patients and in conducting physical examinations. Takes and records pre-examination information from patients including vital signs, height and weight measurements, and medical histories.
- Collects, prepares, and tests various laboratory specimens. Performs venipuncture, hearing and vision screening, and associated clinical procedures.
- Performs non-invasive simple dressing changes to wounds. Prepares, sets up, and closes out examination rooms. Sets up, maintains, cleans, and sterilizes medical instruments and equipment.
- Assists homebound patients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming. Monitors, documents, and reports on the condition of patients. Maintains and distributes inventories of medical and office supplies. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of medical records, files, and reports. Assists physicians and nurses in the provision of various occupational health services in employee health clinics.
- Makes referrals to internal and external stakeholders to address social determinants of health.
- Assists nurses and clients with scheduling appointments and arranges transportation as necessary.
- Answers phone calls, triages and transfers calls as necessary.
- Prepare letters, mail and/or deliver to clients homes.

Required Qualifications:
Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent
plus
two years' experience, under supervision, rendering direct medical patient care. (Additional qualifying education in nursing or a related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)
Knowledge of the general principles, practices, procedures, and methods of attendant nursing.
Knowledge of clinical procedures and methods.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of the use, care, and maintenance of medical instruments and equipment.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of collecting, handling, and testing laboratory specimens.
Skill in providing attendant nursing services to clinics and health professionals.
Skill in participating in direct patient care.
Skill in measuring and recording vital signs and other pertinent information.
Skill in communicating with patients and other members of the staff.
Ability to learn and follow County and Departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to work closely with professional staff.
Ability to maintain records, files, and reports.
Ability to maintain inventories of supplies.
