Under general supervision, performs journeyman level installation, repair, service, and maintenance to heating, air conditioning, refrigerating, and ventilating equipment and leads or instructs lesser skilled workers.
- Performs journeyman level installation, maintenance, service, and repair to heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigerating equipment, including window and package units, freezers, water coolers, remote controls, pumps, compressors, condensers, and related parts and assemblies. Lays out projects, evaluates and tests equipment and component operation, and determines method of repair. Replaces and disposes of refrigerant chemicals.
- Leads or instructs lesser skilled workers and monitors activities of contractors. Inspects work both in progress and upon completion to assure quality and conformance to standards.
- Maintains cost and operational records as required and prepares lists of parts and supplies to be requisitioned for assigned jobs.
- Drives an automobile or light truck to transport workers and equipment to and from job sites.
Examples of Other Duties
Assists other technicians such as plumbers and electricians with large projects. Performs other related duties as required.

Four years' experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigerating, and ventilating equipment
plus
at least two years of which included commercial and/or industrial units.
Related education may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of Type I and Type II E.P.A.
-approved refrigerant certification for technicians is required at the time of appointment. Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
