Major Duties- Serves as an advisor, senior staff specialist, and expert covering a wide range of Information Technologies (IT) and telecommunications, systems development, and institutionalization of policy
- Advises management officials on new developments and advance techniques with a view to enhancing IT integration and infrastructure into business operations
- Serves in a primary support role in the areas of, but not limited to, non-secure and secure network...
- ... and telephone hardware configuration, standardization and management, data telecommunications, hardware configuration, workstation hardware configuration etc.
- Performs cost analysis, and studies different models of equipment for comparative analysis of performance characteristics
- Operates and maintains mobile command centers, prime mover vehicles, material handling equipment and maintains a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Operate deployable IT capabilities to support agency’s contingency, humanitarian and disaster relief responses
- Maintains and deploys Satellite Communications terminals, deploys and operates RF Point to Point Radios for network extension, deploys and configures Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems
- Performs mission planning and site surveys
- Maintains high level of deployment readiness
- Contributes effectively to a collaborative team environment
To qualify for an IT Specialist (NETWORK), your qualifications must include:
A. One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector.
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Analyzes, defines, and maintains network architecture and infrastructure Configures network equipment including routers and switches at layers 1 through 3 utilizing Cisco IOS Configures, troubleshoots and maintains Land Mobile Radio (LMR) devices including antennas, cabling, repeaters, and accessories Applies (RF) Radio Frequency principles and theory in configuring and troubleshooting network hardware;
Evaluates telecommunications network and RF performance Plans , directs, or conducts studies of a long range in nature dealing with broad areas of future operations, telecommunications, networking and technological developments Troubleshoots AC/DC power distribution issues Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
