Police Officer (Instructor)
Position designated as essential. May be performed at any job site within the organization. Must not be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing mission.
Duties- Serves as a training officer for the Police Force at a DLA site.
- Ensure Police Officers are fully trained and capable of accomplishing the agency’s mission.
- Prepare long‑range plans for scheduling of training activities and service schools within the local and federal law enforcement community.
- Monitor and evaluate the Police training program to assess effectiveness, applicability and compliance with policies, procedures, laws and current Court decisions.
- Review and evaluate formal and informal training courses, seminars, and on‑the‑job training.
- Provide instruction for firearms, anti‑terrorism operations, use of force guidelines/applications, emergency vehicle operation, non‑lethal weapons/munitions, defensive tactics, active‑shooter training and incident command response certification, and other training as needed.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.

Required:

- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position; may be required to report during disasters, inclement weather, or crisis.
- Must obtain and maintain licenses, certifications required by installation, federal, state, and local laws.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license/certification to operate government vehicles.
- Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience directly related to this position. For federal civilian service employees, accredited experience must be at GS‑07 level or equivalent. For other applicants, GS‑08 level or equivalent. - GS‑07:
- Conducting law enforcement training classes.
- Developing lesson/training plans pertaining to law enforcement.
- Writing incident/accident reports.
- GS‑08:
- Conducting a variety of law enforcement training classes.
- Developing lesson/training plans pertaining to law enforcement.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of a training program.
- Experience may include paid, unpaid, volunteer work that builds competencies relevant to paid employment.
Work requires significant physical exertion: walking, bending, running, prolonged standing, occasional climbing, in stressful situations. Candidates must be medically qualified annually.
Work EnvironmentInsiders inside facilities and vehicles; outdoors in inclement weather, well lighted and dark areas, and with friendly and hostile people. Possible exposure to high risk and danger when confronting employee/suspects involving assault, breach of peace and more serious crimes. Personal protective equipment may be required.
EducationSubstitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
