Duties- Leads three or more workers to accomplish trades and labor work. Passes instructions on to other workers. Ensures that needed tools and materials are available. Sees that all workers have enough work.
- Checks work in progress and completed work for compliance. Answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and directions. Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work.
- The non-lead duties include stock selection, stow, research, location survey, physical inventory, material handling, material examining and identifying, packing, and operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments. Checks accompanying documentation against container or packing labels. Follows established procedures in reporting over, short, misdirected, or damaged materials.
- Packs and/or preserves a variety of items. Determines the materials, containers, devices and/or preservatives needed.
- Assembles items for shipment in the loading area according to information provided on the shipping requests and checks the condition of shipping containers prior to loading. Ensures shipments are properly loaded onto the right conveyances.
- Counts types and quantities of items during inventories, and maintains tally listings during the count. Recounts or searches other storage locations to assist in determining the basis for over, short, or misplaced items.
- Operates one or more types of material handling equipment such as standard type forklift with a lifting capacity of up to 15,000 pounds, warehouse tractor, or general-purpose vehicle.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. The minimum qualifications for this position include:
- Ability to Lead (SOE): I instruct other workers on less complex work methods; refer to manuals as a means in answering questions related to the proper identification and examination of materials; adhere to all safety standards.
Stands on hard surfaces maintaining balance for extended periods of time. Work requires bending, stooping, reaching and twisting in tiring and uncomfortable positions, many times all at the same time. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds. Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance from other workers for items heavier than 40 pounds. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls when operating materials handling equipment.
WorkingConditions
Work is performed within a warehouse or storage environment that may or may not have air conditioning or heating. Works outside and inside in areas that are hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Subject to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. May be exposed to dusty, dirty, or greasy conditions.
Additional InformationThis is an Expeditionary Civilian (EC) position. The incumbent may be required to deploy via temporary reassignment, or stay in place to support contingency operations. The position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively.
