This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of council employees, service users and members of the public. Working across a wide range of council services, you will provide professional health and safety and fire safety advice, support managers in meeting their statutory responsibilities and contribute to the development of a positive health and safety culture across the organisation.
The successful candidate will undertake health and safety and fire safety audits, support the completion and review of risk assessments and fire risk assessments, investigate accidents and incidents, provide technical advice and guidance, and assist in the development and delivery of health and safety training. You will work closely with services across the Council to identify risks, improve compliance and help develop practical solutions to workplace health and safety challenges.
This role also provides an opportunity to contribute to the Council's strengthened fire safety arrangements. The postholder will support the delivery of fire risk assessments, fire safety audits, compliance monitoring and fire safety advice across a diverse range of council premises including schools, offices, depots, community facilities and operational buildings.
Applicants must hold the NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management (or equivalent) and the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety (or equivalent), or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience. Experience of providing professional health and safety advice, delivering training and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders is essential.
A full current driving licence is required.
In return, East Lothian Council offers flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working where operationally appropriate, excellent terms and conditions, generous annual leave and the opportunity to make a real difference to the safety and wellbeing of employees and communities across East Lothian.
