Seagate Research Group (SRG) conducts research to transform Seagate’s considerable technical expertise, innovation, and manufacturing excellence to develop innovative technologies for the rapidly growing data sphere.
Data Storage and Memory Devices research explore novel data storage technology at device and systems level and create proof‑of‑concept (PoC) for the fast‑growing data sphere and further exploring device innovations at micro/nano scale that leverage Seagate core competencies.
About the role - you willAs a Senior Engineer specializing in Mechanical R&D, you will play a key role in supporting SRG’s advanced research initiatives. You will apply simulation tools and engineering principles to model physical systems, optimize designs, and validate concepts across a range of SRG projects. You will collaborate with global, multidisciplinary teams to accelerate innovation and ensure technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in novel mechanics projects aimed at the areal density growth of data storage devices.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams of engineers and scientists to translate conceptual ideas into robust, testable models.
- Document methodologies, assumptions, and results in technical reports and presentations.
- Contribute to the full product development cycle—from ideation and modeling to prototyping and testing.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
- Support external collaborations with startups, academic institutions, and industry partners.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Bachelor, MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics & Materials Sciences.
- Extensive experience in mechanical engineering such as CAD models, finite element analysis, geometric tolerances, hands‑on skills.
- Is detail‑oriented, analytical, and proactive in solving complex engineering problems.
- Communicates effectively, works well in a team and thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.
- Is eager to learn and contribute to cutting‑edge research.
- Good to have knowledge in mechanics, thermo‑dynamics, fluid‑dynamics.
- Hands‑on experience in simulation and modeling.
- Proficiency in Solid Works (including Flow Simulation), ANSYS, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with mechanical design (structural, dynamic, thermal, manufacturability).
- Strong documentation and presentation skills.
