Firefighter/Paramedic Position – Traverse City Fire Department

The City of Traverse City Fire Department is accepting applications for Firefighter/Paramedics to join a community‑focused department that prioritizes your long‑term career. TCFD prioritizes physical and mental health, professional development, and career stability.

The department operates two stations and responds to approximately 4,100 calls annually. This recruitment is intended to fill seven suppression positions within a total of 33 budgeted positions. Employees are represented by IAFF Local 646.

• 2025 annual salary range: $64,799 – $76,961
• Lateral entry (up to three years): up to $74,358
• Scheduled wage increases:
• 4% in 2026
• 3% in 2027
• 3% in 2028

• Tuition reimbursement and degree stipend
• Department staffing includes four Captains, four Lieutenants, one Fire Inspector, and 24 Firefighters
• Health, dental, and vision insurance
• PA 345 Pension with a 2.0% multiplier
• Vested at 10 years
• No age restriction
• IAFF MERP retiree healthcare
• 2.5% employee contribution
• Uniform allowance of $600 annually
• Twelve paid holidays

• Residency required within a 30-mile radius from 12 months of hire date
• Six percent salary bonus for employees residing within Traverse City city limits

Applicants must possess:

• Michigan Firefighter I and II certification, and
• Michigan Paramedic certification or NREMT–Paramedic certification

Certifications eligible for reciprocity will be accepted.

• Physical Agility Test:
