Responsabile del Procedimento:
Alessandro Dalla Torre Tenure track position for a Researcher in the field of Custom Radiation Sensors. This position is partially funded by the Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza (PNRR) initiative.
FBK is a private research institution devoted to excellence in research in numerous disciplines and designated to the role of keeping the Autonomous Province of Trento in the mainstream of European and international research. Each research area is assigned to a specific research centre, of which there are eleven totals. Information regarding the research centres, their activities and production is available at .Workplace
Description In particular, the FBK Centre for Sensors and Devices, FBK-SD is an applied research centre that operates in the following scientific and technological areas: materials and interfaces, devices and micro-systems, integrated systems. FBK-SD has extremely advanced technical know-how in applied materials science, as well as innovative sensor design and fabrication technologies. The strategic mission of FBK-SD is scientific excellence combined with the ability to exploit research results.
The innovation model is open to collaboration in national and international expertise networks. More information is available at The position available is in the Custom Radiation Sensors (CRS) unit of FBK-SD. The CRS Research Unit carries out R&D activities on advanced radiation and image sensors fabricated with full custom technologies. The main research activities of the group are on the design, development and characterization of silicon radiation detectors, single-photon sensors and advanced image sensors.
Recently the group has started to perform research activities to port the current technologies based on silicon also to silicon carbide. More information about CRS is available at Background information and description of research projects
This position is offered within the IPCEI ME/CT the IPCEI ME/CT project, FBK intends to significantly expand and improve its manufacturing and integration facilities to achieve high-level and reliable heterogeneous production capabilities to maximise research and competitiveness in the market. In IPCEI ME 1, FBK developed the 3D integration platform applied to SiPM and SPAD technologies. Exploiting the results of IPCEI ME 1, the project will mainly work on the integration of new materials (Silicon Carbide & Germanium-on-Silicon) and hetero-integration to extend the capabilities of already established silicon platforms as well as research for the 3D integration of the other silicon-based radiation sensing technologies developed within the unit.
Depending on organizational needs, the selected candidate may also be involved in additional activities or projects within the Centre.
Job Description The purpose of FBK’s Tenure Track program is to offer high level professionals the opportunity of pursuing a structured career path to become a tenured Researcher and contribute to the long-term strategy of the organization. Within this framework, FBK-SD is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, independent researcher in the field of silicon radiation sensors, for the development of cutting-edge radiation detection technologies and devices that will be used to build next-generation systems in large scientific experiments and medical and industrial applications, material analysis and spectroscopy, high energy physics experiments, nuclear reactions monitoring for energy applications, payloads for space missions with a focus on devices with internal multiplication.
The research activity will focus on the different types of silicon detectors currently under development at FBK in the CRS research unit and fabricated by using a fully customized micro-fabrication technology both in the internal FBK facility and in external clean-rooms and foundries.
More specifically, the candidate will deal with all the…
