Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30PM, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. REPORTSTO:
County Chief Financial Officer VACANCIES: 1 POSITION OVERVIEW:

Mercer County Finance Department is seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to serve as an Account Clerk supporting accounting, payroll, and pension functions.

The Account Clerk will perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties involving financial records, employee information, payroll processing, pension administration, data entry, spreadsheets, and related accounting functions. The position will work closely with payroll and pension functions and require ahigh level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

Prior experience or knowledge of payroll and pension functions is preferred but not required. Candidates should have the ability and willingness to learn County payroll and pension procedures, systems, and requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Payroll Administration
  • Assisting with payroll preparation and processing.
  • Reviewing payroll information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintaining and updating employee payroll records.
Pension Administration
  • Assisting with pension administration and maintaining pension-related records.
  • Assisting with audits and payroll and pension reporting requirements.
  • Assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting functions as assigned.
  • Preparing spreadsheets, reports, reconciliations, and other financial documents.
  • Reviewing and reconciling payroll, pension, and accounting information.
Data & Records Management
  • Entering,verifying, and maintaining financial and employee data.
  • Researching and resolving discrepancies involving payroll, pension, accounting, and employee records.
Confidentiality & General Administration
  • Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive employee, payroll, pension, and financial information.
  • Performing other related accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent required. One (1) year of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, payroll, or a related administrative position is preferred.

An associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration,human resources, or a related field is preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:

Payroll/Pension
  • Knowledge of or experience with payroll and pension functions is preferred but not required.
Computer Skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required. Candidates should be comfortable withdata entry, organizing information, sorting and filtering data, basic formulas,and creating and maintaining spreadsheets.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and financial recordkeeping principles.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Abilityto accurately enter, review, and maintain financial and employee information.
  • Abilityto work with numerical and financial information.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Abilityto identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Abilityto maintain confidential payroll, pension, employee, and financial information.
  • Abilityto communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, County departments, payroll personnel, pension administrators, and other parties.
  • Abilityto learn payroll and pension procedures, systems, and applicable requirements.
  • Abilityto work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Abilityto manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
