Overview
Advanced Infrastructure Design, Inc. (AID) is looking to hire a full-time, entry level engineer to provide geotechnical and materials engineering field and design services throughout New Jersey, the Philadelphia and surrounding area, with occasional assignments in other states and locations.

- Salary: $75,000/yr - $90,000/yr, depending on experience, credentials, including years of similar work experience.
- Geotechnical Engineering — Geotechnical boring and test pit inspections, including collecting and logging soil and rock samples for laboratory testing and preparing boring and test pit logs under the direction and guidance of the project geotechnical engineering lead.
- Pavement coring and subgrade sampling and field testing, and collecting pavement and subgrade samples for laboratory testing, under the direction of the project pavement engineering lead.
- Characterize foundation subsurface conditions.
- Characterize pavement and subgrade conditions.
- Preparing boring, test pit, and pavement core location plans to AID standards using CAD base files and mapping tools such as Google Earth.
- Daily field reports and maintaining project documentation.
- Manual and software-based geotechnical analyses under the direction and guidance of the project geotechnical engineering lead. Analyses may include lateral earth pressure, stability, bearing, and settlement of geotechnical structures including piles and drilled shafts, among other items.
- Assist the project pavement engineering lead in preparing pavement design inputs and calculations following FAA and AASHTO guidelines.
- Prepare technical memoranda documenting geotechnical manual and software analyses, analysis methods, and results, including sources of methodology such as FHWA, AASHTO, and NJDOT standards, documents, and related literature.
- Adhere to and promote safety requirements including OSHA excavation safety standards and proper use of PPE.
- Review and compile field and laboratory test data for asphalt, concrete, soil, and aggregate.
- Prepare technical memoranda documenting field and laboratory testing methods and test results.
- Assist in analysis of IRI pavement data collected in the field for the purpose of assessing smoothness condition of pavement.
- Field-locate and obtain concrete core samples of existing bridge substructures for laboratory testing to evaluate structural condition. Perform hand-held GPR to identify reinforcing steel locations.
- Coordinate quality assurance and control with material engineering project lead prior to providing results to clients.
- Perform field sampling of soil and aggregate materials from quarries and construction sites.
- Prepare selected field samples for laboratory testing at AID’s and others’ laboratories.
- Perform field and laboratory testing on construction material, including Atterberg Limits, sieve analyses, proctor compaction, concrete compressive and flexural strength, and HMA volumetric design testing.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an academic focus in Geotechnical Engineering and Materials Engineering.
- Master’s degree in civil engineering is preferred, with a strong emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering and Materials Engineering.
- Additional background in structural analysis, design, and numerical analysis is a plus.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience.
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) or EI (Engineering Intern) certification is preferred.
- Ability to work across disciplines including geotechnical, pavement, materials, and NDT, with appropriate training.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Adobe.
- Ability to commute reliably to Hamilton, NJ office.
- Valid driver’s license meeting AID insurance requirements.
