App Tech Specialist – Senior Data Modeler

Overview

Senior Data Modeler (SDM) Specialist responsible for designing, developing, and implementing modern data modeling solutions using relational, dimensional, snowflake, star, and data lake technologies to meet judiciary needs. Contractor will work remotely, expected to work on‑site a few times per month, and must reside locally. Position will be extended beyond the listed end date.

• Understand and translate business needs into data models supporting long‑term solutions.
• Work with Application Development teams (e.g., Pega Applications) to implement data strategies, build data flows, and develop conceptual data models.
• Create logical and physical data models using best practices to ensure high data quality and reduced redundancy.
• Optimize and update logical and physical data models to support Data Initiative projects across implementation phases.
• Develop best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure consistency of data models.
• Recommend opportunities for reuse of data models in new environments.
• Perform reverse engineering of physical data models from databases such as DB2 and SQL scripts.
• Evaluate data models and physical databases for variances and discrepancies across source systems.
• Analyze data‑related system integration challenges and propose appropriate solutions, developing models according to standards.
• Collaborate with System Analysts, Engineers, Programmers, BI, and other IT teams on project limitations, capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
• Review modifications to existing software to improve efficiency and performance.

• Over 8 years of data modeling experience.
• Minimum 4 years overall experience, with at least 3 years in big data technologies.
• Strong work experience in data modeling and use of modeling tools.
• Experience with Snowflake’s cloud data warehouse (preferred).
• Broad knowledge of relational, dimensional, unstructured, and master data.
• Recent skills in developing data lake models alongside traditional modeling practices (snowflake, star).
• Proficiency in translating logical data models into physical databases.
• Ability to compare actual project procedures to specified standards and procedures.
• Expertise with current and relevant data modeling technologies.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external groups, including vendors.
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

• 8+ years modeling for DB2, AWS Redshift, Dynamo
  
  DB, Postgre
  
  SQL, SQL Server, Pega Application.
• 6+ years experience with data modeling software.
• Experience with AWS and other cloud systems.
• Strong SQL and data profiling skills in various relational databases.
• Analysis of source databases, referential integrity, and profiling of source data.
• Database tuning techniques (minimum 4 years).
• Experience building data lakes for structured and unstructured data (2+ years).
• College degree or equivalent technical study (minimum 4 years).
