TRAFFIC SIGNAL ELECTRICIAN - SENIOR LEVEL

SALARY: $54,422 – $72,229
SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position with regular weekday hours from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Candidates must be available to respond to emergencies and perform work outside of these hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

POSITION OVERVIEWThe Mercer County Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Signal Electrician to join our team. This position involves performing skilled electrical work related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic signal systems throughout Mercer County. The Senior Traffic Signal Electrician will serve as a lead technician, providing direction to other electricians and ensuring all traffic control systems operate safely and efficiently.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrician to advance in the public sector while contributing to the safety and reliability of the County's transportation network.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform advanced installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems, including conduits, cables, signal heads, and electronic control components.
- Plan and execute complex electrical wiring and cable hookups for traffic control devices.
- Install, calibrate, and maintain traffic signal controllers, radar detection equipment, and flashing beacons.
- Erect, repair, and maintain automatic and manual traffic signals and timing mechanisms.
- Conduct bench testing and preventive maintenance of traffic control equipment.
- Operate vehicles and equipment required for traffic signal work.
- Lead, assign, and instruct other traffic signal electricians and maintenance staff.
- Inspect, store, and maintain tools, materials, and supplies necessary for electrical operations.
- Maintain accurate work orders, inspection logs, and maintenance reports.
- Follow and enforce all safety regulations and electrical codes.
- Four (4) years of experience in traffic signal installation and repair, electrical maintenance, or as a wireman in electromechanical assembly.
- Valid New Jersey Driver's License required.
- A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with applicable endorsements may be required, depending on assigned duties.
- Thorough knowledge of traffic signal system installation, repair, and maintenance techniques.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions in traffic control systems.
- Skill in interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to perform emergency repairs safely and efficiently under adverse conditions.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to direct other employees.
- Proficiency in preparing maintenance reports and maintaining accurate service records.
- Competence in using electronic and manual record-keeping systems.
