QUALIFICATIONS
M.A. Degree
At least three years teaching experience preferred.

JOB SUMMARY
The school Counselor is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and maintaining guidance and counseling programs and services designed to provide information and direct counseling services to students, their parents, and teachers to facilitate academic, social, and career growth and adjustment of each student.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Assistance- Assist in the effective placement of students.
- Assist with the registration process and scheduling when appropriate.
- Facilitate parent support and parent education efforts as needed.
- Provide students with information and assistance to understand their growth and adjustment problems.
- Provide orientation for new students and those transitioning between educational levels.
- Inform students and staff about available guidance and counseling services.
- Assist with credit recovery and online services when applicable.
- Support gifted and talented programs in developing ALPs.
- Continuously evaluate guidance and counseling programs and services.
- Identify and pursue personal growth activities following a systematic plan.
- Act as the primary contact between the school and students' homes/parents to inform the community about school programs.
- Maintain records and submit reports on time.
- Assist with standardized test results interpretation and communication.
- Implement guidance programs through effective instructional skills and structured group sessions.
- Maintain professionalism in dress and conduct.
- Interpret cognitive, aptitude, and achievement tests.
- Assist students with attendance issues and provide counseling for tardiness or absences.
- Advise teachers on classroom management related to specific students.
- Help the principal address student issues and needs.
- Advocate for students in IEP meetings, student study teams, and attendance review boards.
- Coordinate assessment activities and support post-secondary planning, including scholarships.
- Coordinate referral processes for RTI and facilitate family support interventions via IEP or DHS referrals.
- Assist staff in identifying students needing special help and facilitate referrals.
- Provide information on new teaching methods and trends for working with diverse learners.
- Support students with short-term needs and refer to mental health professionals when appropriate.
- Assist with testing services and interpretation for students with special needs.
- Collaborate with post-secondary institutions on admissions and scholarships.
- Maintain accurate student records and ensure appropriate class assignments for graduation requirements.
- Provide career guidance and assist in developing career and educational plans.
Additional Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of Power School, Alpine, NWEA, Pearson Access Next, College Board (SAT/PSAT accommodations), SAT roster services, ICAP, Kite-DLM, and other assessments for students with severe needs.
Ten, eleven, or twelve-month employment. Salary and work year are to be established by the Trinidad School District #1 Board of Education.
