Description Of JobPrimary responsibilities include providing technical expertise in the electronics field; maintaining and repairing electrical and electronic hardware and software within the facility and ensuring compliant and secure installation and operation of electronic systems. The position promotes the Colorado Department of Corrections Mission, Vision and Values while adhering to a high level of integrity, commitment and providing excellent customer service. Responsibilities also encompass design, installation, upgrades, maintenance and monitoring of all facility electronic device systems services including security control network, business LAN fiber, wiring and switches, fire protection system, Vindicator UHS transponder system, card access system, security video system (both analog and digital), camera/monitor switch matrix, security x‑ray scanner and video imaging system.
Technical expertise is required to train staff, preserve physical plant electronics capabilities, ensure security and integrity of all low voltage security systems, fire alarm systems, non lethal electric fence controls, man down systems, closed circuit cameras and intercoms, including wiring, conductors, conduits, circuits, panels and circuit boards. The role analyzes HVAC, security controls, security video systems, security LAN, NLEF, microwave detection systems, man down systems, cable television system and fire protection systems to identify and correct errors;
collaborates with the Office of Information Technology, Communications, Canteen Services, Colorado Inmate Phone System (CIPS) and other maintenance and trades to ensure effective completion of projects and efficient use of resources. The position researches manufacturer data, industrial standards, agency regulations and policies, and equipment history to design and implement preventive maintenance programs while remaining within budget. Safety and security are maintained through proper use of tools and keys, observing Administrative Regulations, Operational Memorandums and other policy during maintenance and repair tasks;
participation in offender shakedowns, counts, oversight and restraint as required.
Two (2) years of employment experience installing, repairing, maintaining, modifying, calibrating, certifying and/or fabricating electronic equipment. College or University course work in a related field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
