Position Summary
The Activities Aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational, social, and therapeutic activities for residents in a long-term care facility. This role supports residents’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being through meaningful engagement and person-centered programming.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in developing and carrying out daily, weekly, and monthly activity programs for residents.
Lead individual and group activities such as crafts, music, exercise, games, outings, and special events.
Encourage resident participation and provide one-on-one engagement for those unable or unwilling to join group activities.
Transport, escort, or assist residents to and from activities using proper safety and mobility techniques.
Observe and document resident participation, preferences, behavior changes, and progress.
Help set up, organize, and clean activity areas, supplies, equipment, and materials.
Support the planning of holidays, birthday parties, themed events, and family engagement activities.
Communicate effectively with nursing staff, therapists, and other team members regarding resident needs.
Follow all infection control, safety, and facility policies and procedures.
Assist with maintaining calendars, event boards, and resident activity schedules.
Build positive, supportive relationships with residents while promoting dignity, autonomy, and inclusion.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience working with older adults or individuals with disabilities preferred.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Ability to motivate, engage, and support residents with differing cognitive and physical abilities.
Creative, patient, energetic, and compassionate demeanor.
Basic computer skills for documentation (depending on facility).
Ability to lift, move, or assist residents as needed.
