Position Summary

The Activities Aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational, social, and therapeutic activities for residents in a long-term care facility. This role supports residents’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being through meaningful engagement and person-centered programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and carrying out daily, weekly, and monthly activity programs for residents.

  • Lead individual and group activities such as crafts, music, exercise, games, outings, and special events.

  • Encourage resident participation and provide one-on-one engagement for those unable or unwilling to join group activities.

  • Transport, escort, or assist residents to and from activities using proper safety and mobility techniques.

  • Observe and document resident participation, preferences, behavior changes, and progress.

  • Help set up, organize, and clean activity areas, supplies, equipment, and materials.

  • Support the planning of holidays, birthday parties, themed events, and family engagement activities.

  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff, therapists, and other team members regarding resident needs.

  • Follow all infection control, safety, and facility policies and procedures.

  • Assist with maintaining calendars, event boards, and resident activity schedules.

  • Build positive, supportive relationships with residents while promoting dignity, autonomy, and inclusion.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience working with older adults or individuals with disabilities preferred.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to motivate, engage, and support residents with differing cognitive and physical abilities.

  • Creative, patient, energetic, and compassionate demeanor.

  • Basic computer skills for documentation (depending on facility).

  • Ability to lift, move, or assist residents as needed.
