Position Summary
The Activities Aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational, social, and therapeutic activities for residents in a long-term care facility. This role supports residents’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being through meaningful engagement and person-centered programming.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in developing and carrying out daily, weekly, and monthly activity programs for residents.
- Lead individual and group activities such as crafts, music, exercise, games, outings, and special events.
- Encourage resident participation and provide one-on-one engagement for those unable or unwilling to join group activities.
- Transport, escort, or assist residents to and from activities using proper safety and mobility techniques.
- Observe and document resident participation, preferences, behavior changes, and progress.
- Help set up, organize, and clean activity areas, supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Support the planning of holidays, birthday parties, themed events, and family engagement activities.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, therapists, and other team members regarding resident needs.
- Follow all infection control, safety, and facility policies and procedures.
- Assist with maintaining calendars, event boards, and resident activity schedules.
- Build positive, supportive relationships with residents while promoting dignity, autonomy, and inclusion.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with older adults or individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to motivate, engage, and support residents with differing cognitive and physical abilities.
- Creative, patient, energetic, and compassionate demeanor.
- Basic computer skills for documentation (depending on facility).
- Ability to lift, move, or assist residents as needed.
