Experienced Motorcoach or CDL drivers are preferred; however, training will be provided by Pacific Crest Charters for the right applicants who do not possess a CDL.

Bus Driver Requirements:

  • Have a valid driver's license for the past 3 years.
  • Have a clean driving record.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Be able to pass a DOT medical exam.
  • Be able to pass required drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Be available to work at least 3 full days per week.
  • Be able to be away from home overnight occasionally.
  • Be able to obtain the required permit if not already licensed (Class B CDL, Passenger Endorsement, Air Brakes)
    • We may assist with obtaining licenses and endorsements

Bus Driver Required licenses:

While not required to be interviewed or trained, the driver applicant will be required to have the following license in order to be hired:
Class A or B CDL with Passenger Endorsement, Air Brakes.

Bus Driver Training:

Applicants who successfully pass the interview process must complete behind the wheel and classroom training with a Pacific Crest Charters driver trainer, as well as online training modules before being hired. Good news! Training is paid!

Bus Driver

Hours:

Bus drivers are dispatched three to four days in advance and work a variety of days and hours. Every day is an adventure! Only route drivers have consistent schedules. Drivers who can begin a trip on any day of the week and be gone for any number of days are preferred, but this level of availability is not required. All newly hired drivers are considered part-time when initially hired.

Part-time drivers will be considered for full-time status as full-time positions become available and excellent performance is demonstrated.

What You’ll Do

Provide safe, reliable, courteous, and efficient motor coach charters for people in the Oregon service area and be committed to safety through consistent and professional work. Safety is a fundamental value that guides all aspects of our work!

Bus Driver

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare bus for operation by performing pre-trip safety inspection. Monitor the ongoing condition of the vehicle during operation.
  • Operate a bus on specified route(s) according to established time schedules. Follow department rules and policies, obey traffic laws, and remain knowledgeable regarding any changes.
  • Develop and practice defensive driving skills to prevent vehicle or passenger accidents. In the event of an accident or emergency, assist passengers to assure their safety.
  • Monitor and initiate two-way radio calls, if needed, reporting any unusual conditions such as accidents, passenger incidents or traffic problems promptly.
  • Provide accurate information to customers regarding fares, routes, schedules and operating rules. Announce major streets, transfer points, and points of interest as required. Maintain courteous and professional demeanor with customers at all times.
  • Assist disabled passengers with boarding and exiting the bus. Secure wheelchair clamps or safety belts as may be required.
  • Provide verbal and written reports to department supervisors and management regarding route, safety, schedule, fare, and operational problems or concerns.
  • Assist in the instruction of student operators for route orientation and further development of the student’s operating skills.
  • Prepare required paperwork, such as lost and found tags, accident/incident reports, and bus defect reports.
  • Selection Criteria:

  • Ability to demonstrate/develop strong customer service/interpersonal skills to provide positive interactions with customers, problem-solving and customer assistance.
  • Ability to work with the public in a variety of situations while performing several tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and make decisions without direct supervision.
