We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to step into the role of Senior Laboratory Technician, based in the Water Laboratory. This position is ideal for someone looking to further their development within the laboratory, take on additional responsibility, and contribute to the continued delivery of high‑quality analytical work. Reporting to the Team Leaders and Section Heads, you will work closely with Laboratory Technicians, Senior Technicians, Analysts and Microbiologists, supporting both day‑to‑day operations and the wider safety and quality culture within the team.

Contract: Full Time and Permanent
Salary: £26,950 per annum

Responsibilities- Carry out general laboratory and pathology tasks in full accordance with documented methodologies and procedures.
- Perform microbiology analyses within required timescales to meet method and customer expectations.
- Provide training, guidance and supervision in microbiology methods and procedures.
- Enter results accurately and on time in line with method and customer deadlines.
- Notify the shift supervisor promptly of any issues, uncertainties, and potential delays affecting test performance or turnaround times.
- Monitor stock levels and inform the shift supervisor when replenishment is required.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and well‑organised laboratory environment, ensuring waste is disposed of correctly.
- Complete all paperwork concisely, accurately and legibly.
- Work in accordance with all quality, health and safety procedures, including correct PPE use.
- Identify and report unsafe practices immediately and support the Laboratory Manager in resolving them.
- Promote and contribute to the continuous improvement of the safety culture within the business unit.
- Ensure all analytical data meets ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standards.
- Report incidents or near misses to a senior member of the team.
- 5 GCSEs (grades A* - C or 9
- 4), or equivalent, including Science, English and Mathematics. - Strong proficiency in microbiology analysis across a range of methods and procedures.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and senior staff.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to use initiative, work independently and prioritise tasks.
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Effective team working skills.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications.
- Sound understanding of laboratory safety requirements and a commitment to promoting safe working practices.
