SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The CNC Certificate Program
Participant will learn to operate equipment according to established procedures in a safe and quality manner. Dimensional measurements will be required during the operation of equipment to assure compliance to requirements. Adjustments to the equipment will be executed during the operation of equipment to meet established run rates and part accuracy. This involves learning to perform First Piece Inspection and continuous Quality activities.
Equipment will include Mills, Lathes, CNC’s and screw machines. The program is a partnership with Enterprise State Community College (ESCC) and Kimber intended to provide basic CNC training through 18 credit hours over a 16 week period. In addition to the classroom and laboratory components, the program includes a Kimber onsite work component beginning with Assembly or Finishing operations and progressing to CNC operator responsibilities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Successfully complete all classroom and laboratory academic requirements through ESCC
- Perform part-time assembly and/or finishing work onsite at Kimber according to coordinated schedule
- Learn to implement and sustain S, Q, D, C, I activities
- Learn to develop, sustain and improve CNC machine tool methods and procedures
- Learn to assist tool selection in the development and implementation of fixtures for new product development
- Learn to develop standard work, tool setup sheets, and standard operations for production jobs
- Learn to trouble shoot various problems (improper tooling, dull tools, wrong location of machined feature, code errors, etc.) and develop corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
- Learn to perform Quality Assurance activities while operating equipment (Optical systems, calipers, gages, indicators)
- Learn about Productive Maintenance activity
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate proficiency and show progress towards learning each essential duty. - Interpret technical prints (GD&T)
- Must acquire basic knowledge of CNC machine “G-Code” and troubleshooting skills
- Maintain and change tools
- Determine offsets and adjusting accordingly
- Interpret Work Orders and enter data into the Manufacturing database (ERP)
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
- 1 year of experience in machining or related mechanical field
- Vocational/Technical Degree
- Lean manufacturing experience
- Kaizen event experience
- 5S knowledge and experience
Ability to read, write, listen and follow instructions. Ability to read blueprints.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSBasic shop math and precision measurement skills.
REASONING ABILITIYAbility to make adjustments as needed by following SOP’s.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTSTravel will normally be less than 5% (training, equipment development, satellite facility support) .
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIESAttendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work hours and shifts coordinated in advance with academic scheduling of the program. Ability to work as part of a team, including all related departments/plants or independently as required to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction.
