Registered Nurse - Acute Care - Per Diem

Position:
Per Diem - Troy Community Hospital – Acute Care unit

Department Details: Acute Care is a 25-bed acute/subacute care unit that focuses on interdisciplinary care for medical and surgical patients with the Medical Hospitalist Service. Bedside RNs at Guthrie benefit from Virtual RNs located in the Pulse Center, assisting with tasks to allow more time for direct patient care.

Position Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional, comprehensive nursing care in an acute care environment. Accountable for delivering coordinated, safe, compassionate, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act for the state of employment, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice.

Essential functions and specific skills are found in the unit onboarding checklist and applicable standards.

Education, License, & Certification
  • Registered Nurse in the state of practice
  • BSN in Nursing preferred
  • Any agreed-on effective date for obtaining a Bachelor's degree will remain in effect unless superseded by a contract specifying time frames
  • Specialty Certification preferred
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS - unit dependent

Experience: The RN must be currently licensed in the state of employment with at least one year of experience. Alternatively, less than one year may be acceptable if transitioning from the Newly Licensed RN Residency (NLRN) Program. Must meet unit-specific educational requirements and maintain BLS; ACLS is unit dependent.

Essential Functions
  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care; develop and update the plan of care to optimize outcomes and transitions across the continuum; monitor and communicate patient condition; maintain currency of essential competencies as required by the area of hire and population served
  • Advocate for ethical, holistic care and patient autonomy during planning
  • Foster a learning environment for patients, families, nursing staff, students, and the healthcare team
  • Promote safety and quality by applying evidence-based practice and aligning safety for patients, self, and the environment
  • Engage in ongoing professional development; practice at the top of license within legal and ethical parameters; promote inquiry and evidence-based practice
  • Demonstrate leadership, delegate appropriately, coordinate care, and collaborate as part of the inter-professional team; participate in planning and presenting educational programs
  • Note:

    Other duties may be assigned as necessary

  • Proficiency in information technology, electronic health records, communication systems, and related equipment
  • Ability to work with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to use independent, critical judgment in patient care delivery

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and respond to urgent or challenging situations
