Accounts Payable Specialist

Description We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to support a construction-focused organization in Troy, Michigan. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who brings strong payables experience, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to resolve vendor and payment-related issues efficiently. The person in this role will help maintain accurate financial records, ensure timely payment processing, and contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the accounts payable function.

Responsibilities:

- Review, code, and process invoices accurately while ensuring alignment with company procedures and general ledger requirements.

- Reconcile vendor statements and account activity to identify differences, research outstanding items, and maintain accurate balances.

- Prepare and process payments through checks and ACH transactions in a timely and organized manner.

- Investigate payment exceptions, trace transaction details, and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with vendors and internal teams.

- Maintain complete and accurate accounts payable records to support reporting, audits, and month-end activities.

- Communicate with vendors regarding invoice status, payment timing, and account questions to support positive business relationships.

- Use accounting systems and spreadsheets to track payable activity, validate information, and improve accuracy in daily processing.

- Assist with additional accounting and administrative tasks as needed to support the broader finance team. Requirements

- At least 5 years of hands-on accounts payable experience, preferably within a construction or contractor environment.

- Proficiency in invoice coding, account coding, and payment processing with strong attention to accuracy.

- Experience handling vendor reconciliations and resolving invoice or payment discrepancies independently.

- Working knowledge of check runs, ACH payments, and general ledger impact related to accounts payable transactions.

- Familiarity with accounting platforms such as Navision or Oracle.

- Strong Microsoft Excel skills for tracking, analysis, and reconciliation work.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organized, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
