Location: Troy, MI
Compensation: $150,000 – $180,000 + bonus/benefits
Type: Direct Hire / Full-Time

About the Opportunity

Omni Staffing is partnering with a well-established commercial general contractor in Southeast Michigan to find a Chief Estimator to lead its concrete and civil preconstruction efforts. This is a senior leadership seat on the Preconstruction team, overseeing a group of estimators and working directly with Operations, Project Management, Engineering, and Executive Leadership on large-scale heavy industrial, structural concrete, and commercial projects.

If you've spent 10+ years estimating heavy industrial and self-perform concrete work and you're ready to own the estimating function and bid strategy, this is worth a conversation.

What You'll Do
  • Lead complete project estimates (labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, indirects, and general conditions) from conceptual through construction documents
  • Set estimating strategy for heavy industrial, structural concrete, foundations, site concrete, and civil scopes, including self-perform concrete operations
  • Review drawings, specs, and site conditions to build accurate scope, assumptions, clarifications, and risk assessments
  • Drive bid strategy, run bid-day analysis, and give final approval on bid forms before submission
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client presentations
  • Identify value engineering and cost-saving opportunities
  • Build and manage subcontractor and vendor relationships, bid lists, and trade coverage; evaluate quotes and performance
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of estimators, managing workload and reviewing deliverables for accuracy
  • Run project turnover meetings after award and support buyout on GC, CM, and Design-Build projects
  • Maintain historical cost databases and productivity benchmarks, track hit/miss ratios, and compare estimated vs. actual costs
  • Support business development and strategic planning for new pursuits and market growth
What You Bring
  • 10+ years of progressive estimating experience in commercial construction
  • Strong background estimating heavy industrial, structural concrete, civil, and self-perform work
  • Track record leading large project pursuits from concept through award
  • Experience managing estimators or preconstruction staff (preferred)
  • Bachelor's in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, and EDGE, Plan Swift, or similar estimating software
  • Solid understanding of concrete means and methods, GC and self-perform delivery models, subcontractor procurement and buyout, conceptual estimating, and scheduling
Why This Role
  • True leadership position with ownership of the estimating function and bid strategy
  • Large-scale, high-visibility heavy industrial and structural concrete work
  • Direct collaboration with executive leadership
  • Competitive compensation package
