Job Responsibilities

Mission of Position: We are looking for a detail‑oriented Specialized Drivetrain & Diagnostic Technician to work primarily with our four‑wheel‑drive (4WD) transfer case products. The core responsibility involves in‑depth inspection, disassembly, troubleshooting, and reassembly of transfer cases, supported by advanced computer diagnostics. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of vehicle mechanical systems and is proficient in using computer software for diagnostics and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • In-Depth Component Disassembly and Inspection
    • Perform meticulous disassembly of transfer cases and related drivetrain components to identify wear, defects, and failure points.
    • Inspect all internal mechanical components (gears, shafts, chains, bearings, seals) using precision measuring tools.
    • Perform necessary part cleaning and preparation for reassembly or failure analysis.
  • Advanced Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
    • Utilize computer‑based diagnostic tools and software to analyze and interpret data from electronic control units (ECUs) and vehicle systems.
    • Diagnose mechanical, electronic, and hydraulic issues related to the transfer case operation, both on and off‑vehicle.
    • Conduct functional and road testing to replicate and troubleshoot customer concerns and product issues.
  • Documentation and Reporting (Computer Skills)
    • Document all findings in detail using internal database systems or specialized reporting software (e.g., fault codes, inspection results, repair notes).
    • Create clear, comprehensive technical reports that include photographic evidence and a precise record of all work performed.
    • Communicate technical findings effectively to engineering and quality assurance teams.
  • Reassembly and Quality Assurance
    • Perform precise reassembly of transfer cases according to strict technical specifications and quality standards.
    • Ensure all repairs and inspections meet required safety and performance metrics.
  • General Mechanical Support
    • Assist with the removal and reinstallation of transfer cases from vehicles when required.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Mechanical Expertise:
    Proven experience (3+ years preferred) in automotive repair with a strong focus on drivetrain, transmission, or axle systems.
  • Component Level Knowledge:
    Demonstrated ability to disassemble, inspect, and reassemble complex mechanical components like gearboxes, transmissions, or differentials.
  • Diagnostic Proficiency:
    Strong skills in using handheld or laptop‑based diagnostic tools to read and interpret trouble codes and live data.
  • Computer Literacy:
    Proficient with standard office software (Word, Excel) for creating reports, and experience with specialized software for technical documentation/data entry.
  • Certifications:

    Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
Preferred
  • ASE Certification in Manual Drivetrain & Axles (A3) or relevant specialty.
