Job Responsibilities- Works with the inverter/ eMotor Engineering eDrive Systems electrification group assisting with projects on all different levels throughout the co‑op program.
- The student will assist the inverter and eMotor Design Engineers with the design, development, analysis, and testing of electric motors and inverters for electric traction drives (voltages < 1000V, I < 750A) for eDrive applications.
A dynamic team that pushes boundaries, innovates, and is passionate about being part of the transformation from traditional Powertrain to eMobility. The team works together to uphold a professional, team‑based collaborative project culture and standards.
Key Responsibilities- Contribute to design and development of eDrive architecture by understanding system requirements and subsystem requirements related to the inverter/ eMotor system from both external and internal sources.
- Perform inverter/ eMotor system requirements analysis and support modeling to define the optimum inverter/ eMotor system design.
- Carry out competitor analysis (benchmarking) of different inverter/ eMotor system solutions in the transportation market.
- Learn about the detailed design and development of inverter/ eMotor system technologies for eDrive applications.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
- Learn about Engineering principles and Magna culture and apply classroom knowledge to a practical, real‑life application.
- Be an active contributor to the eDS group to advance the progress of Magna’s electrified products.
- Advance the knowledge of the automotive industry, specifically electrified powertrains, and driveline components.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
- Enrolled in an engineering program with an accredited school.
- Preferably working towards or has a Master of Science in the field of electrical engineering.
- Some level of analytical ability and understanding of engineering theory and principles of design.
- Ability to work in a dynamic fast‑paced, team environment and perform assigned tasks related to the electrification of automobiles.
- Fundamental understanding of energy conversion principles, as well as the operation of DC‑DC and DC‑AC converters, including PWM techniques.
- Preferably have a good understanding of electromagnetic principles.
- Basic understanding of MATLAB and Python preferred.
- Practice and maintain integrity while following Magna’s Charter and Constitution.
- Follow Magna’s Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies.
- Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (IATF 16949).
- Drive the development of new technologies to improve quality, efficiency and reduce cost.
- Comply with safety policies and procedures to ensure duties of self are performed in a safe manner.
Health & Safety responsibilities:
- Understand applicable Environmental, Health & Safety policies and procedures in the workplace.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Report injuries, accidents, illnesses, near‑misses, property damage immediately.
- Follow safety rules.
