Job Responsibilities
  • Works with the inverter/ eMotor Engineering eDrive Systems electrification group assisting with projects on all different levels throughout the co‑op program.
  • The student will assist the inverter and eMotor Design Engineers with the design, development, analysis, and testing of electric motors and inverters for electric traction drives (voltages < 1000V, I < 750A) for eDrive applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to design and development of eDrive architecture by understanding system requirements and subsystem requirements related to the inverter/ eMotor system from both external and internal sources.
  • Perform inverter/ eMotor system requirements analysis and support modeling to define the optimum inverter/ eMotor system design.
  • Carry out competitor analysis (benchmarking) of different inverter/ eMotor system solutions in the transportation market.
  • Learn about the detailed design and development of inverter/ eMotor system technologies for eDrive applications.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn about Engineering principles and Magna culture and apply classroom knowledge to a practical, real‑life application.
  • Be an active contributor to the eDS group to advance the progress of Magna’s electrified products.
  • Advance the knowledge of the automotive industry, specifically electrified powertrains, and driveline components.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Enrolled in an engineering program with an accredited school.
  • Preferably working towards or has a Master of Science in the field of electrical engineering.
  • Some level of analytical ability and understanding of engineering theory and principles of design.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast‑paced, team environment and perform assigned tasks related to the electrification of automobiles.
  • Fundamental understanding of energy conversion principles, as well as the operation of DC‑DC and DC‑AC converters, including PWM techniques.
  • Preferably have a good understanding of electromagnetic principles.
  • Basic understanding of MATLAB and Python preferred.

  • Comply with safety policies and procedures to ensure duties of self are performed in a safe manner.
