Support Engineer

About the Role

Reliance One is seeking a Support Engineer – USA to join our client’s growing industrial automation team in Troy, Michigan. As a Support Engineer, you’ll work within the industrial automation, battery assembly, and battery & component testing fields—helping drive innovation and excellence in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

This role offers the opportunity for travel and training in South Africa, along with significant professional and personal growth potential.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Remote application engineering (PLC, HMI, and Robot Software Development).
• On-site commissioning of facilities in the USA when projects don’t justify sending someone from South Africa.
• After-sales technical support, with a primary focus on industrial application engineering, but also electrical or mechanical troubleshooting as needed.
• On-site commissioning and support of End-of-Line Testing systems.
• Act as the supporting point of contact between the South African project team and USA-based activities.
• Conduct site surveys, collect project information, champion customer design reviews, and provide project status updates.
• Supervise and manage installation teams and subcontractors during facility installation and commissioning.
• Develop the USA supplier base for competence, strategic fit, delivery, and quality.

Training

• Train junior application engineers in the USA to expand skills in line with installation needs.

All activities will be supported by management and engineering teams in the USA and South Africa.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

• B.Eng Mechatronics,
  
  B.Sc Electrical Engineering, or related qualification.
• 3–5 years’ experience in Application Engineering (PLC, HMI, and Robot Programming).
• Experience in systems integration (PLC, HMI, Robotics, Motion Control, industrial networking, LV power distribution).
• Industrial automation experience in the automotive manufacturing sector.
• Practical, hands-on technical expertise.

Soft Skills

• Willingness and ability to travel (moderate travel required).
• Entrepreneurial, dynamic, motivated, and driven with initiative and creativity.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.

Preferred but Not Required

• Sales & Marketing experience.
• International/multi-cultural exposure.
