BU ENGINEERING & DEVELOPMENT LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

As a BU Engineering & Development Laboratory Technician, you will manage the physical aspects of the testing facility, maintain laboratory equipment, and ensure that infrastructure supports testing needs. Work is performed in a fast‑paced environment with tight time constraints, and may include unusual hours and travel.
Responsibilities- Maintain laboratory building and systems integral to C‑Power validation testing.
- Coordinate the definition and installation of new test equipment: prepare specifications, justify CAPEX, monitor construction, and ensure final technical reception of the NAO Development Lab.
- Manage facility and testing equipment, coordinating repairs and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement and corrective action activities.
- Collaborate with, supervise, and manage outside vendors as required.
- Responsible for assigned budgets and analyze spending to maintain budget and identify cost reductions.
- Act as the main Health, Safety, and Environment Lead: coordinate environmental activities, oversee compliance with DOT regulations, participate in the NAO Safety Committee, and enforce lock‑out/tag‑out procedures.
- Design, specify, and build test controls and equipment; develop programming tools using LabVIEW; write RFP documents; evaluate and implement new test equipment.
- Interpret technical procedures and regulations; analyze test failures, discover root causes, and communicate plans, procedures, and results clearly.
- Manage shipping/receiving area for the laboratory: load/unload packages from trucks and obtain Hazmat/RECA certification for hazardous waste transportation.
- Minimum of a 2‑year degree or equivalent in facilities maintenance or engineering.
- Preferred: 5 years experience in facilities maintenance, machine, testing equipment, welding/fabricating.
- Hands‑on experience building, designing, or using test equipment.
- Good working knowledge of TS16949 & ISO 17025 procedures.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, MS Project).
- Able to read measurements, scales, and blueprints.
- Hands‑on repair knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of English and metric measuring systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (English required).
- Ability to collect, maintain, and analyze data, manage time independently, and work both independently and in a team.
- Professional soft skills: build strong relationships, deliver customer‑centric solutions, drive engagement, and collaborate effectively.
