About Us
A growing property management and real estate investment firm dedicated to delivering exceptional service to property owners, investors, and tenants. Our portfolio includes retail, multifamily, and commercial properties in the Metro Detroit area. We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive accounting professional experienced in property and fund accounting to manage the financial health of multiple lines of business and commercial properties. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate reporting, clean reconciliations, and meaningful insights that support our leadership team in maintaining portfolio performance.
Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping:
Multiple lines of business & property portfolio
- Maintain accurate general ledgers, chart of accounts, and financial records for multiple entities.
- Record + reconcile financial transactions like rents, owner draws, vendor payments & intercompany transfers.
- Process accounts payable and receivable promptly and accurately.
- Manage security deposits, escrow, and trust accounting records in accordance with Michigan requirements
- Knowledge of commercial, retail & multi-family accounting
-CAM charges, recoverable expense bill backs, etc.
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations for operating and trust accounts.
- Track owner distributions and capital contributions with proper journal entries.
- Monitor cash flow for each entity and flag variances or irregularities to management.
- Support budgeting and forecasting efforts for properties and the management company.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial packages for each property and
- Generate management reports like rent rolls, delinquencies, occupancy analysis, budget variance, CAM, etc.
- Assist with year-end reporting, 1099s, and coordination with external accountants for tax filings.
- Provide insights to improve efficiency, profitability, and portfolio performance.
- Utilize property management and accounting software (App Folio preferred; Buildium, Yardi, or similar).
- Maintain organized digital files, backup processes, and ensure data integrity.
- Recommend and implement workflow improvements to streamline financial operations.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable real estate accounting standards.
- Perform & support audits, lender reviews, property owner and investor financial requests.
- Collaborate with property managers, owners, and leadership on financial questions or issues.
3+ years of experience in property management, real estate, or small-business accounting.
Solid understanding of accrual accounting, intercompany transactions, and cash flow management.
Proficiency with property management software (App Folio strongly preferred).
Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills for financial analysis and reporting.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Strong attention to detail, integrity, and ability to work independently.

Competitive hourly rate or salary based on experience.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $50,000.00 - $60,000.00
