The Certified Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon in the performance of approved surgical procedures, and works under the direct supervision of and by the request of the operating surgeon.

• High school diploma required.
• Associate’s Degree or equivalent preferred. Required years of relevant experience in lieu of associate’s degree may be considered.
• Completion of a Surgical Tech First Assistant or Certified Surgical Assistant Program required.
• Must receive certification as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through the NCCSA, or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) through the NBSTSA upon hire required.
• 2 years of relevant experience; surgical assisting experience preferred.
• Certified (CST) – AST Association of Surgical Technologist preferred.
• Certified (CST) – NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting preferred.
• Certified (CSFA) – NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting upon hire required or.
• At least one Certification from the preferred list:
  • Certified (CSA) – NCCSA National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants upon hire required or.
  • Certified (SA-C) – ABSA America Board Surgical Assistant upon hire required.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire required.
• AHA ACLS Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support preferred.
