GENERAL SUMMARYUnder the general guidance of the medical director, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with diseases and adverse health conditions following the written guidelines approved by the department. The Troy Trauma/SICU team is a collaborative, supportive group of APPs and Physicians dedicated to patient care excellence for injured and critically ill patients. As one of the busiest Level II Trauma Centers in the state of Michigan, we treat a wide range of traumatic injuries and acute illnesses, and pride ourselves on exceptional patient outcomes.
APPs on this service are trained to be able to manage patients from door to discharge. We offer educational and training opportunities for APPs interested in performing bedside procedures, point‑of‑care ultrasound, and rapid assessment of critically injured patients. The Troy Trauma/SICU team is seeking APPs who are hard‑working, proactive, and who are interested in a rewarding career where they can practice at the top of their scope within a supportive team of APPs and Physicians.
Mostly midnights, but other shifts as needed. Holiday and weekend rotations.

- Assess the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
- Recognize deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Work in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow‑up.
- Write prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow‑up studies, therapeutic measures, and post‑discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
- Determine eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings.
- Request written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
- Interpret and evaluate findings of studies/tests.
- Relay appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
- Administer therapeutic measures and obtain specimens as prescribed.
- Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
- Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the client.
- Dictate follow‑up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan.
- Maintain provision of preventive health services (e.g., screening, risk assessment, immunizations, PAP smears, self‑breast exam).
- Dictate or write patient history, admissions, care plans, progress, and discharge notes.
- Interact with program assistants and data managers for optimal patient care.
- Assist in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient care.
- Conduct or participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and ensure appropriate and quality care for assigned patient.
- Provide on‑call coverage.
- Perform patient triage and determine the urgency of physician’s evaluation.
- Provide symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing OR a Master’s in Physician Assistant studies
- 1 to 3 years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in an acute care clinical setting, preferred. Ideally these areas include ICU, Trauma, Internal Medicine or General Surgery.
- State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required
- AHA/ARC BLS certification required
- ATLS and/or FCCS certification preferred
