The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry‑level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). This position is accountable for the provision and coordination of clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. Responsibilities include delegating tasks to RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians and participating in quality‑improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.

• Perform essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or other Registered Nurses.
• Collect and analyze patient data pre–during–post hemodialysis, document it in the record, and adjust treatment plans as needed.
• Assess patient/family learning needs and provide ongoing education.
• Direct the safe delivery of hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with patient‑care staff.
• Administer medications per prescription or approved algorithm(s) and document justification and effectiveness.
• Assist with emergency response measures.
• Serve as a resource for the healthcare team, participate in staff training, and orient new staff.
• Ensure correct laboratory procedures and reschedule missed collections.
• Document and update the nursing assessment and plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Educate patients on transplant and treatment modality options.
• Complete CAP requirements to advance within the program.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

• Direct patient care involving heavy lifting and patient ambulation; assistance available from equipment or coworkers.
• Frequent, prolonged periods of standing and ability to bend over.
• Possibility to move equipment up to 200 lbs and lift chemical solutions up to 30 lbs.
• Work environment typical of a healthcare facility with controlled air temperature and moderate noise.
• Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
• Desk and computer work, interaction with patients, staff, and physicians.
• Travel to training sites or other facilities may be required.
• Essential functions may be performed at other locations with similar demands.

• Oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge after meeting these requirements:
• Successful completion of all Fresenius Kidney Care education and training requirements for new employees.
• Minimum of 9 months experience as an RN.
• Minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as an RN.

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current, appropriate state licensure.
• Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification.
• Must meet state practice requirements for the location of employment.

• Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience.
• Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred).
