Ultrasound Technician – Multi / PRN

Unit: Medical Imaging

Shift: PRN / Support

Facility: Upper Valley Medical Center

Independently performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures and ultrasound‑directed interventional procedures, utilizing proper techniques and protocols. Works within scope of practice and registry requirements. Coordinates patient flow and Ultrasound Department activities. Exercises professional judgment to maintain equipment and may perform procedures in other imaging modalities based on departmental needs. May have on‑call responsibilities.

No supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Education: Associate degree in Ultrasonography.

Preferred: Associate degree or graduate of an accredited program.

Licensure / Certification:

• Credentialed in Ultrasound technology by:
  American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Vascular credential required: ARDMS Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), CCI (RVS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International, Registered Vascular Specialist.
• Minimum one additional registry in practiced specialties: abdomen, OB/GYN, musculoskeletal, neurosonology, breast.
• CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.

Minimum Level of Experience

Required:

No prior job‑related work experience.

Preferred: 2 years of experience in Ultrasound.

• Proficient in performing diagnostic procedures and obtaining images for physician interpretation.
• Proficient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Proficient in Radiology Information System (RIS) and image storage.
• Advanced US applications.

Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds, work under stressful conditions, and may be exposed to aggressive behavior or blood and body fluids.

Possess skills, knowledge, and abilities that align with Premier Health values, including patient focus, integrity, and safety. Participate in quality improvement, maintain competency, and adhere to infection prevention and regulatory policies.

• Performs US procedures of diagnostic quality per physician/radiologist orders; evaluates US studies for technical quality.
• Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the US procedure.
• Performs daily and weekly quality control procedures.
• Practices sterile technique as required.
• Assists radiologist in special procedures and medical treatment during emergencies.
• Coordinates patient care with other areas to optimize patient time and satisfaction.
• Educates patients/families regarding procedures and exam.
• Ensures records, files, and reports are properly recorded and verifies physician orders; communicates billing procedures.
• Maintains knowledge of emergency equipment location and operation.
• Follows radiation safety policies and procedures.
