Position: Current Department Employees: Physician Assistant Urgent Care - Part Time

Bargaining Unit: Outpatient Clinics - EAP

Rate of Pay: $73.22/hour + DOE

Summary
Provides episodic and minor injury care to patients under the supervision of the Medical Director and/or supervising physician, following established standards and protocols. Functions as a member of the clinical team maximizing the delivery of quality care to patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent and non-urgent presentation.
  • Selects, orders, performs and interprets diagnostic tests including X-rays as appropriate in collaboration with supervising physician.
  • Analyzes reports and findings of tests to diagnose patients in collaboration with supervising physician as appropriate.
  • Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness and injury in collaboration with supervising physician.
  • Refers patient to primary care provider (PCP), emergency room (ER) or specialist as appropriate.
  • Performs procedures designated in credentialing privileges
  • Utilizes practice guidelines and standardized procedures in collaboration with the supervising physicians in providing medical care to patients.
  • Performs directly observed therapy (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). procedures, discusses test results and prescribes treatments with patients.
  • Documents findings and treatment course in patient electronic medical record (EMR) including follow-up notes.
  • Interacts with medical practices and emergency room physicians to create a cooperative atmosphere.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge base for medical conditions and injuries that may present to an urgent care setting.
  • Attends clinical provider staff meetings.
  • Participates in professional development activities.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience
Associate's Degree Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. and 2-3 years relevant experience

Required Licenses/Certifications
California Physician Assistant (PA) - In good standing

  • Upon hire

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers

  • Upon hire

Collaborative Agreement (CA) or evidence of Supervising Physician Agreement (NV State Medical Board), as applicable, with a designated supervising physician member of the Hospital’s medical staff

  • Manager will initiate upon hire
  • Upon hire

Current and unrestricted Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) approved for all drug schedules (II-V)

  • Upon hire

BLS/ACLS:
Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS and ACLS certification).

  • Within 3 months of hire into job

National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

  • Upon hire

Nevada Pharmacy Board Certificate If applying to work in Nevada

  • Upon hire

Other Experience/Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to participate in a federally funded program (Medicare and Medicaid)
  • Physician Assistants must complete an educational course in controlled substances that meets the standards of practice by TFHD and the State of California
  • Knowledge of medical coding
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of urgent care medicine
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of occupational health medicine
  • If working in Nevada:
    • Nevada Physician Assistant license in good standing
    • Nevada Pharmacy Board certificate
