The Senior Circulation Assistant assists with the daily operations of the Circulation Department. This role responds to the needs of library patrons, supports other circulation staff and volunteers, resolves customer service issues, and performs all essential circulation and support functions. Additionally, the position helps manage library finances by recording daily transactions, maintaining financial records, and generating reports.
- Assists with daily circulation operations, supporting circulation staff and volunteers with any questions and addressing patron needs.
- Reinforces established circulation policies and procedures, communicating any staff/volunteer issues with Circulation Coordinator or Library Administrators.
- Prepares daily and weekly schedules for adult volunteers and pages.
- Assists with onboarding new circulation staff, including volunteers and pages, training them in office policies and procedures and department specific software.
- Acts as a resource for circulation staff, providing support or additional training if needed, helps maintain circulation project timelines.
- Assists with administrative tasks as assigned such as data entry and cash handling.
- Manages multiple projects, meets deadlines, and works both independently and collaboratively.
- Troubleshoots basic issues with public and staff computers, printers, scanners, and software applications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Works under the general direction of the Circulation Coordinator or his/her designee.

- Strong data entry and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of library policies, procedures, and customer service practices.
- Ability to work independently while following established guidelines and protocols.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years of library experience, including at least one year performing duties equivalent to a Circulation Assistant or similar role.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, specifically email, word processing, and spreadsheets and other general computer applications.

Each candidate must have had the minimum required experience and training to be eligible to participate for the exam for this position. The weight of the examination will be 80% experience and training and 20% computer skills. The candidates will be ranked based on their experience and training, which is based on the information contained in their employment application and their responses to a supplemental questionnaire, and the results of a computer skills test.
This examination will be conducted for the Town of Trumbull by the Trumbull Civil Service Board within the authority of Section 7‑413 of the 1959 revision of the State of CT General Statutes.
