The Membership Coordinator supports the mission and work of the Y—a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This part‑time role is scheduled for up to 29 hours per week and assists in all aspects of branch membership, including welcoming and engaging new members, driving member retention, and providing day‑to‑day leadership and oversight for assigned membership staff.

Up to 20% of the work schedule may be in direct service at the Member Services desk.

In this role, you will:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with members, guests, volunteers, program participants, and staff across the branch.
  • Support the leadership of Membership staff, including recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, coaching, and addressing concerns appropriately.
  • Promote membership and program enrollment through strong service, clear communication, and a welcoming presence.
  • Coordinate program registration logistics (phone, walk‑in, and web registration) and partner with marketing efforts to maximize enrollment.
  • Help coordinate and provide coverage for the Child Watch program as needed—supporting a safe, welcoming experience for children and families while maintaining expected supervision and check‑in/check‑out procedures.
  • Stay up to date on facility changes (events, holidays, schedule updates, and closures) and communicate impacts as needed.
  • Follow all Membership procedures and expectations related to safety, cash handling, sales, records, reporting, and member information.
  • Maintain a visible, active presence—monitoring the environment, conducting safety checks, and supporting an orderly Member Services area.
  • Follow and reinforce YMCA policies, rules, and safety procedures, including child abuse prevention practices.
  • Serve as an active leader in membership retention goals and the Annual Giving Campaign.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education/experience).
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a customer service setting.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with members, participants, and volunteers.
  • Strong computer skills and comfort with standard business software.
  • Effective communication skills—able to inform, support, and motivate staff and members.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Safety‑conscious, observant, and able to respond calmly and quickly in an emergency.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required.
  • Must complete YMCA Member Service trainings within first 60 days of employment.
  • Emergency Oxygen Administration certification obtained within first 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
