Trust Doctor in Urology

This post will provide training opportunities in operating theatre (inpatient and day case), diagnostics and outpatient clinics, along with management of emergencies and elective inpatients. The role will be tailored to the level of experience and training of the appointee. From an educational perspective, there will be opportunities to run supervised audits, give presentations and teach. Publication and presentation of work at international and national meetings is strongly encouraged and supported.

The urology department comprises nine full‑time consultants, Urology ST registrars, senior clinical fellows, one surgical education fellow, one CT, two FY2s and three FY1 doctors. The department is supported by specialist nurses and cancer nurse specialists. Diagnostic and local anaesthetic treatment services are delivered within the on‑site dedicated urology diagnostic and treatment unit, which offers flexible cystoscopy, urodynamics, TULA and LATP.

The department provides subspecialist work in laparoscopic (transperitoneal and retroperitoneal) surgery, endourology including PCNL and HoLEP, paediatric urology and andrology. It serves a population of 570,000 people that can double during the peak holiday season. The unit has a high patient throughput and offers excellent training opportunitiesκά στα.

Main Duties of the Job

The candidate will be required to have completed basic surgical training (MRCS) and have an interest in pursuing a career in Urology. Previous experience in Urology is essential. Applicants must be GMC registered.

Clinicalilat work fwa dependence on experience. The post holder will also participate in a 1:6 out‑of‑hours/on‑call rota.

  • Assessment & management of in‑patients.
  • Assessment & management of acute admissions.
  • Attend ward rounds.
  • Attend multi‑disciplinary ward meetings.
  • Attend out‑patients.
  • Assessment of patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Fulfil duties of the weekly timetable including out‑of‑hours responsibilities.
  • Maintain the highest clinical standards in management of clinical services.
  • Share day dietary responsibility for patient care.
  • Ensure active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
  • Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance & Audit.
  • Attend meetings as appropriate.
  • Support the Trust’s NHS Net Zero target through sustainability initiatives.

This post will provide the opportunity to develop non‑clinical skills and experience and to undertake education, research or quality improvement projects.
