Toassist the surgical team in the care of patients and their families to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. The post willalso include some administrative duties.

Probus Surgical Centre has been providing NHS specialist day case surgery under local anaesthetic in a primary healthcare setting since 1995. In 2011 all providers were required to have an Any Willing Provider contractual status with the Primary Care Trust and to achieve registration with the Care Quality Commission;
Probus Surgical Centre achieved both of these quality standards and proudly continued to deliver surgical services to the people of Cornwall and beyond.

Probus Surgical Centre carries out over 8,000 NHS procedures each year. The centre is within the Probus GP Surgery approximately midway between Truro and St. Austell. Parking is easy in our free car park which overlooks far reaching views of beautiful Cornish countryside.

Dutiesand Responsibilities:

• Toassist with the administrative function of the surgical team including the accurate documentation of records. To assist with the administrative function of the surgical team including the accurate documentation of records.
• Toassist the scrub nurse and surgeon during surgical procedures and to accept training towards assisting surgeons in a scrub nurse role.
• Monitoring and recording base line clinical observations.
• MRSAscreening as required.
• Provide post-operative advice to patients
• Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed
• Toassist with ensuring that clinical waste collection runs smoothly, reporting any problems to the theatre manager or nurse in charge.
• Ensure sharps bins are secure and ready for collection.
• Toattend satellite units as required
• To participate in audit where appropriate and requested
• Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the surgical team
• Assistthe senior nurse to ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes
• Ensurethe accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient.
• Assistthe nursing team to ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports
• Attendand participate in surgical team meetings as required
• Toassist with the restocking and maintenance of clinical areas and consulting rooms
• Toassist in the management of surgical records and appointment systems
• Tofulfil any additional duties as reasonably requested and required ie checking the resus trolley, ordering, stocktake

• Experience of working within a nursing team
• Experience of working in an operating theatre environment.

• Educated to a good GCSE standard
• Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care
• Completed Care Certificate
