Job Summary
The main role is to provide day‑to‑day line management and professional supervision to the MLA Team within Blood Sciences, ensuring best practice and adherence to Trust policies and procedures. The post holder manages allocation of work, staffing and resources to achieve objectives and key performance indicators. The role will evolve as the Trust meets corporate objectives and NHS targets.
Responsibilities- Manage the MLA Team’s day‑to‑day workflow and output to meet Trust targets, escalating poor performance to lab leads.
- Deliver an effective development review structure, ensuring all individuals receive an annual review against NHS KSF Core Competency Standards.
- Manage sickness absence and attendance, record and report absences, conduct back‑to‑work interviews, and participate in absence management meetings.
- Participate in recruitment, selection and induction of new staff within the Care Group, including local induction into relevant departments.
- Oversee training and competency assessment of MLA staff and ensure all team members receive mandatory training.
- Plan and manage cover for periods of absence due to holiday and sickness, maintaining acceptable levels of cover.
- Manage MLA staffing levels within the funded resource limits and identify when additional staff are required to maintain safe service delivery.
- Provide guidance to the MLA Team, ensuring accurate procedure follow‑up and on‑the‑job training as appropriate.

- CSE / GCSE (or equivalent) in 4 subjects including Mathematics, Science and English.
- Previous NHS laboratory experience.
- Experience working in an acute NHS service provider.
- Previous experience coordinating a team, staff management, delivering training and competency checks.

Salary: £27,485 to £30,162 a year (pro rata).
