This is an exciting opportunity for experienced Band 5 OTs looking to progress their career or an established Band 6 looking to specialise in Surgery.
Our service provides acute inpatient intervention alongside safe and effective discharge planning for patients on the surgical wards at Treliske Hospital.
You will work closely with an MDT and medical colleagues to plan and provide effective intervention and support discharge planning.
Main duties of the jobAs a Band 6 OT you will carry a caseload, which will include the completion of initial and standardised OT assessments, formulating client centred goals and treatment plans for each patient on your caseload. We endeavour to support your learning and development formally through a robust appraisal process and regular supervision and through informal teaching and training. You will also develop staff management skills with the opportunity to supervise and develop junior therapy staff, support workers and be part of the teaching / training programme within the wider MDT

Person Specification Qualifications- Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
- HCPC registered
- Membership of the College of Occupational Therapy
- Membership of appropriate clinical interest groups, e.g BACPAR
- Comprehensive experience in an acute hospital setting, including a range of post qualification rotations at Band 5 and Band 6 level
- Experience of working within a range of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams, including evidence of collaboration with other organizations
- Experience of working in a team of people including qualified and non qualified staff
- Experience managing the risks associated with lone working
- Experience of working with Occupational Therapy students, either as a clinical educator or supporting a clinical educator
- Experience working in an NHS setting in the following clinical areas:
Surgery, Respiratory, Medical, Trauma and Orthopaedics, and neurology
- Up to date clinical skills and specialist level assessment skills
- well developed communication skills- empathy, compassion , negotiation and motivation
- Good understanding of roles within the MDT and respect for other professionals within the team
- Analytical thinker, reflective practitioner with portfolio evidence to support this.
- Experience of teaching
- Evidence of clinical audit/research activity
- Evidence of post graduate education and development
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to work in highly stressful situations including the ability to manage distressing and highly emotive situations successfully
- Able to concentrate for long periods, including during patient treatments (for 20+ minutes). Able to work with frequent interruptions.
- Actively participate in, and record, CPD activities and in-service training.
