Bariatric Nurse Specialist
The post holder will be based in the specialty of Bariatric and Upper GI surgery covering Maternity leave for a period of 12 months.
The Specialist Practitioner/Nurse will be an experienced practitioner who uses specialist knowledge and skills to support the patients considering and undergoing obesity, metabolic or bariatric surgery treatments.
They will work under the supervision of the Consultant Nurse for Obesity, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery or the Consultant Surgeons for Bariatric and Upper GI Surgery.
The post holder may be required to undertake training in additional areas of obesity, metabolic and bariatric surgery and upper GI surgery in order to future proof the service.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be responsible for undertaking training in the following areas, Advanced Assessment for Clinical Practice (APP
710), Non-Medical Prescribing, gastric band assessments and adjustments, ward rounds for elective and emergency bariatric surgery patients, discharging inpatients post-surgery, post-op follow up, ordering investigations and interpreting the results, formulating treatment plans, autonomous nurse-led outpatient clinics and data collection.
