Position:
Security Guard – Nova Scotia
Competition Number: CNS 2026‑05‑15
Reports to:
Site Supervisor
Rate of Pay: $21.27 per hour (variable depending on site contracts; some sites are unionized).
Working Hours:
On‑call position, 8–12‑hour shifts, various hours/days of the week.
- Protect personnel, property, assets, and confidential information.
- Conduct routine foot patrols and perimeter inspections, indoors and outdoors.
- Escort contractors and visitors through secured areas.
- Report incidents, concerns, and operational updates to the Site Supervisor.
- Prepare accurate and detailed incident and daily activity reports.
- Monitor, operate, and respond to security alarms and surveillance systems.
- Maintain a safe and secure work environment while promoting health and safety practices.
- Adhere to all CNS Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies and client site requirements.
- Follow all CNS policies, Site Work Instructions, and supervisor directions.
- Perform additional duties as required, including patrol operations, reception and administrative support, access control, emergency response, and incident management.
- Contractor escorting through various facilities.
- Key control.
Eligible candidates must:
- Be female.
- Be 19 years of age or older.
- Be eligible to work in Canada.
- Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
- Provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check.
- Be eligible to apply for Government of Canada personnel security screening.
- Communicate effectively in English; bilingualism is an asset.
- Professional and detail‑driven with a strong work ethic and a “Can Do” attitude.
- Mental alertness with ability to react calmly and quickly in crisis situations, remain alert for up to 12 hours, communicate observations, and exercise sound judgement.
- Physical fitness to climb stairs, navigate uneven terrain in all weather, stand for extended periods, and maintain dexterity and balance.
- Superior attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, good verbal communication, and, if possible, computer literacy.
- First Aid certification.
- Successful completion of the Commissionaires Security Officer Course (online and/or in‑class).
- Proof of mental and physical fitness (fitness test).
- Use of Force certified.
- Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces or RCMP.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention trained.
- Valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence or reliable transportation.
- Bilingualism (French/English).
