Job Description
The Material Handler is responsible for the reconciliation of incoming and outgoing materials and movement of finished goods and material. Move material to appropriate areas throughout the plant and document in accordance with established procedures. Load/Unload trucks and document transaction in accordance with established procedures.
Responsibilities- Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment.
- Sort cargo before loading and unloading.
- Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information.
- Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs. Record numbers of units handled or moved, using daily production sheets or work tickets.
- Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.
- Pack containers and re-pack damaged containers.
- Carry needed tools or supplies from storage or trucks and return them after use.
- Move materials, equipment, or supplies.
- Sort materials or objects for processing or transport.
- Load shipments, belongings, or materials.
- Mark materials or objects for identification.
- Receive information or instructions for performing work assignments.
- Review work orders or schedules to determine operations or procedures.
- Record operational or production data.
- Secure cargo.
- Position material handling equipment.
- Operate moving or lifting equipment.
- Monitor cargo area conditions.
- Clean facilities or work areas.
- Package materials or products.
- Connect cables or electrical lines.
- Shovel materials.
- Set up material handling gear or equipment and packaging.
- Maintain material moving equipment in good working condition.
- Operate packing or other material processing equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, proficiency in written and verbal communication, and good spelling and grammar.
- High degree of attention to detail; demonstrates accuracy and self-directed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Experience with Inventory tracking software desired.
- Experience with data entry software and handheld computer device software.
- Must be able to pass “Forklift Certification” process.
This position may involve potential exposure to hazardous materials, and environmental changes (heat/cold), and the employee must be able to work under stress occasioned by production requirements, personnel, and the needs of other departments, utilizing proper body mechanics.
Physical RequirementsThe physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical activities required of this job include but are not limited to considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, standing, stooping, and handling tools and materials. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time; however, it may involve walking and standing for brief periods of time.
Work will involve frequent lifting of materials and product up to 50lbs. Employee will be occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and walk.
