Duties

Works on the protection, relaying and control, electrical physical design, and grounding analysis for 345/115/69/34.5/12 kV substation EPC, services projects. Performs grounding analysis and electrical Protection and control, lead on moderately complex engineering projects. Performs complex grounding studies and analysis using the CDEGS and WINIGS software. Performs research and develops recommendations for ground grids and material selection to mitigate the step and touch potential issues for high voltage electrical Substations.

Performs complex engineering calculations following IEEE, NESC and NEC standard methods and principles. Leads group of entry level engineers to perform soil resistivity measurement required for the grounding analysis. Analyzes the Geotech data using the RESAP tool of the CDEGS software to model the soil for grounding analysis. Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Plans and conducts independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Prepares and reviews one‑line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, DC schematics, SCADA/RTU drawings, panel front views, panel wiring diagrams, AC & DC panel board wiring diagrams and communications network drawings, designs plan views, elevations, grounding layouts, conduit layouts, cable charts, and bill of materials for high voltage substation projects. Assists with the procurement package for substation projects. Coordinates with vendors and external subcontractors for various tasks on the project.

Performs site visits and take part in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) as part of projects. Continues to learn, remains current and applies independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks. Performs quality verifications (QA/QC) for electrical drawings and calculations prior to issuing for construction. Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables.

Reviews lower‑level engineering work or assignments, provide manhour, schedule, and cost estimates for proposals. Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members from electrical, civil, structural, and field engineers, construction support, on moderately complex projects. Coordinates meetings with the clients and discuss key components and shares progress reports with the clients. Mentors, trains, and guides professionals with less experience. No hire/fire authority.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus at least three years of related experience with high voltage substations, or, alternatively, Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus at least five years of related experience with high voltage substations. PE license is required. Related experience must include:
