Navajo Preference Employment Act

In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, TCRHCC has implemented an affirmative action plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference Employment Act. Applicants who meet the necessary qualifications for this position and (1) are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe will be given preference in hiring and employment for this position; (2) are legally married to enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe and meet residency requirements will be given secondary preference;

Position Summary

This position provides comprehensive and continuing health and medical care services in full scope Family Medicine practice with Obstetrics optional. The physician requires recognition and knowledge of diseases and injuries, including those difficult to discover or identify, and assumes responsibility for diagnosis, prevention, therapy, maintenance, and rehabilitation of patients as a senior attending or expert.

Qualifications
  • Education: Must have a Medical Degree, MD or DO.
  • License: Current and unrestricted license to practice as a physician in any State, Territory, District of Columbia or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico;
    Board Eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice.
  • Experience: Completion of three (3) years of accredited residency training in Family Practice.
  • Credentialing: Must become a credentialed member of the TCRHCC Medical Staff.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment, with positive employment references addressing success in areas such as working relationships, ethical standards, reliability, culturally diverse environment, trustworthiness, mentorship, and complaint handling.
    • Completion of all background and reference checks, fingerprint clearance, physical examination, and other screenings demonstrating qualification to be employed by TCRHCC.
    • Submission of all required employment-related documents, applications, resumes, references, and other information with no false or misleading content.
Mental and Physical Effort

Physical: Must be able to frequently walk several hundred yards quickly, sit, stand, reach, occasionally bend and kneel, write well, and perform visual and hearing tasks required for diagnostic skills.

Mental: Must handle high levels of stress, work evenings regularly, make decisions under pressure, concentrate, adapt to shift work, and interact calmly with emotionally disturbed patients.

Environmental: Work is performed in a clinic setting with exposure to infectious disease, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, extreme temperature or humidity, and loud noises.

Responsibilities
  • Interview and examine patients, review medical history, medications, diet; perform diagnostics and arrange specialized care or referrals.
  • Provide emergency care as required and assist with office-based procedures.
  • Give definitive management in all medical categories, conduct outpatient clinic visits, review medications, therapy, adherence, and modify regimens.
  • Educate and counsel patients and family members.
  • Provide prenatal care and counseling, may deliver infants, and arrange postpartum care.
  • Refer patients to appropriate contracted medical facilities and provide full clinical information.
  • Ensure proper preparation of medical records; dictate clinical reports and correspondence.
  • Collaborate with allied health professionals to coordinate patient medical, psychological, and social care.
  • Train, teach, and supervise medical students and residents.
  • Participate as an active member of TCRHCC and serve on committees.
  • Maintain legible handwriting; use electronic health records for data entry.
  • Participate in departmental workflow and testing teams related to electronic records or other projects.
  • May be assigned to clinics in various locations (e.g., Tuba City, Sacred Peaks, Lechee, Bodaway Gap).
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is worn at all times and complete proper donning/doffing and cleaning procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
