Navajo Preference Employment Act

Position Summary

The rheumatologist will provide medical care services for adult patients in hospital, clinic, and designated health care facilities, focusing on rheumatological conditions.

Qualifications
  • Education & training: MD or DO degree; completion of a 3‑year Internal Medicine residency; completion of a Rheumatology fellowship; board–eligible or board–certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • License & credentialing: Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico; meet all additional credentialing/privileging requirements for membership to the Medical Staff.
  • Other skills and abilities:
    • Positive working relationships with others.
    • High ethical standards; no history of complaints from co‑workers or patients.
    • Reliability and punctuality; minimal absences.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Successful completion of background and reference checks, fingerprint clearance, physical examinations, and other screenings.
    • Submission of all required employment‑related documents and references with accurate, honest information.

Responsibilities Essential Functions
  • Conduct outpatient rheumatology clinic visits; review medications, diet, therapy, and adherence; adjust treatment plans; provide patient and family counseling.
  • Perform consultations for hospitalists; review history; order or perform diagnostics; provide preliminary diagnoses and treatment or referrals; provide emergency care as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate medical records; communicate with primary care providers and other healthcare professionals.
  • Refer patients to appropriate contracted facilities; provide complete clinical information and coordinate follow‑up care.
  • Collaborate with allied health professionals (community health nurse, social workers, health educator, etc.) to coordinate patient care.
  • Maintain electronic health record data entry consistent with patient service role.
  • Ensure proper PPE usage, including masks, gloves, gowns, N95 respirators, and face shields; follow CDC guidelines for donning/doffing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
