Overview
Navajo Preference Employment Act
In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, TCRHCC has implemented an Affirmative Action Plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act. Pursuant to this Plan and corresponding TCRHCC Policy, applicants who meet the necessary qualifications for this position and (1) are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe will be given preference in hiring and employment for this position, (2) are legally married to enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe and meet residency requirements will be given secondary preference, and (3) are enrolled members of other federally-recognized American Indian Tribes will be given tertiary preference.
Summary
TCRHCC provides the full range of obstetrical and gynecological services. Obstetrical services include routine and complex prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. Gynecological services include preventative and therapeutic treatment of girls, women, and transgender people within the scope of practice. The scope of care may be limited by the facilities. Rarely, the provider may be the sole specialist on duty.
Other assignments include consultation services, teaching, and participation in hospital governance.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- A Medical Degree, MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine
- Completion of a four (4) year residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology
License/Certification
- Must possess and maintain a current and unrestricted license to practice as a physician in any state within the United States, District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico
- Active Candidate or Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Credentialing
- Must be a credentialed member of the TCRHCC Medical Staff
Other Skills And Abilities
A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each of the following areas:
- Positive working relationships with others
- Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints
- Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences
- Excellent clinical skills and judgment
- Successful completion of and positive results from all background and reference checks, including positive employment references from authorized representatives of past and current employers demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC a record of satisfactory performance and that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job
- Successful completion of fingerprint clearance requirements, physical examinations, and other screenings indicating that the applicant is qualified to be employed by TCRHCC
- Submission of all required employment-related documents, applications, resumes, references, and other required information free of false, misleading, or incomplete information, as determined by TCRHCC
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

Physical
Incumbent will need to frequently sit, stand, walk, twist, maintain balance; and, reach. Must have the ability to occasionally bend, climb, kneel, and crouch. Must be able to lift, pull, and push frequently up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to over 100 pounds to move patients and equipment. The incumbent must have the ability for far vision, near vision, color vision, depth perception, seeing fine details, hearing normal speech, and telephone use.
Incumbent must be able to utilize bilateral hand use with simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation, and frequent use of a keyboard. Must be able to accept a flexible schedule to meet unit needs. Incumbent may be environmentally exposed to infectious disease; chemical agents; dust, fumes, gases; and hazardous or moving equipment.
Mental
Contacts often require tact and sensitivity as those related to stressful situations such as death, dying, and catastrophic illnesses. Must be able to prioritize and use good judgment. Must be able to coordinate a variety of issues while being frequently interrupted. Must have the prolonged ability to cope with high levels of stress, make decisions under high pressure, concentrate, handle a high degree of flexibility, and manage multiple priorities in stressful situations.
Must frequently cope with anger, fear, hostility of others in a calm way; manage altercations; work alone; adapt to shift work; and work in areas that are close and crowded.
