Overview
Navajo Preference Employment Act
In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, TCRHCC has implemented an Affirmative Action Plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act. Pursuant to this Plan and corresponding TCRHCC Policy, applicants who meet the necessary qualifications for this position and (1) are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe will be given preference in hiring and employment for this position, (2) are legally married to enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe and meet residency requirements will be given secondary preference, and (3) are enrolled members of other federally-recognized American Indian Tribes will be given tertiary preference.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Laboratory Technician - Medical Laboratory Scientist performs specimen processing, testing, and reporting of test results in compliance with regulatory requirements, policy and procedures, and the TCRHCC’s goal of providing quality patient care. The position is in the laboratory that provides sub-specialties of service in a hospital setting: chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, microbiology, and clinical microscopy. The laboratory provides 24-hour coverage and rotates day, evening, or night shifts, weekends, holidays and occasional overtime.
QualificationsNECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Education (Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist)
- High school graduate or GED, AND
- Sixty (60) hours of courses in an institution accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency with additional specified coursework, or
- For Medical Laboratory Technician: official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks and held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) or equivalent, plus completion of at least 60 hours of accredited coursework as detailed in the original description.
- For Medical Laboratory Scientist: baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, and completion of the specified 48 semester hours of medical laboratory technology/clinical science, or 48 semester hours across subjects including chemistry, biology, and related laboratory science.
License/Certification
- Medical Laboratory Technician: certification from a nationally recognized agency within 18 months of hire; certification must remain unexpired and in good standing for duration of employment.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist:
Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technologist or Specialist certification from a nationally recognized agency within 18 months of hire; certification must remain unexpired and in good standing for duration of employment.
Experience
- Medical Laboratory Technician: six (6) months documented bench experience in each specialty including blood bank, microbiology, chemistry and hematology.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist: minimum of one (1) year of approved clinical laboratory experience, including clinical rotation through blood bank, microbiology, chemistry and hematology.
