Navajo Preference Employment Act

This mid‑level advanced practice professional provides direct patient care, patient and family education, psychological support, and survivorship planning from diagnosis through the continuum of cancer care. The scope of practice includes comprehensive assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, performing invasive procedures, prescribing chemotherapy and biotherapy, and conducting health screenings. The incumbent serves as an educator, consultant, and liaison to healthcare providers across inpatient and outpatient services.
QualificationsEducation
Master of Science in Nursing
Licensure / Certification- Valid, current, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a nurse practitioner in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico
- Certification by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA)
- Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) credential from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) within one year of hire
Must meet additional requirements for credentialing and privileging for membership to the Medical Staff.
ExperienceFour (4) years of successful nurse practitioner experience evaluating and treating adult primary‑care patients.

- Experience managing the physiological and psychological effects of illness and treatment
- Basic understanding of medical oncology, radiation oncology, oncology nursing, oncology social work, and cancer registry data collection and reporting

- Highly motivated, self‑directed individual with demonstrated nursing care in ambulatory services
- Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences

The incumbent must be able to sit, bend, twist, stand, walk, and reach for prolonged periods; lift, push, and pull up to 100 lbs; and perform tasks such as keyboard use and hand manipulation. Sensory requirements include near and far vision, color vision, hearing, and the ability to use a telephone and loudspeaker.
MentalThe role requires managing patient emotions, adapting to shift work, handling multiple priorities under stress, and making decisions under pressure. The incumbent will work with critically ill patients, provide high‑level judgment, and deliver patient care with patience and flexibility.
EnvironmentalThe position may expose the incumbent to chemicals, extreme temperature and humidity, infectious diseases, dust, fumes, hazardous equipment, heights, and loud noises.
