CAD Design Engineer

Job Description

CORE DUTIES: DESIGN & PROJECT DOCUMENTATION

• Produce shop drawings, plans, elevations, sections, and details for millwork, casework, and cabinetry in AutoCAD 2026 or newer (we run 2027)

• Interpret architectural plans, specs, and finish schedules; flag conflicts and constructability issues early

• Manage multiple concurrent projects, hit submittal and production dates, and track revisions and open items

• Prepare submittals, RFIs, cut lists, and hardware/finish schedules; keep project files organized and current

REQUIRED SKILLS

• AutoCAD (commercial office experience): create and edit attribute and world blocks; customize menus (MNU/MNS pop-ups, SLD side menus); import and manage DXF, raster, and PDF underlays

• Microsoft 365 / Office (2021 or newer): Excel (compound formulas, conditional formatting, estimating assemblies), Word (forms with drop-downs, images), Outlook (account setup, PST archiving)

• Adobe Acrobat (2021 or newer): create, edit, and secure forms and PDFs

• Strong written and verbal communication, documentation habits, and attention to detail

• Cabinet construction methods, materials, hardware, and standards (AWI/AWMAC or similar)

OPERATIONS & OFFICE SUPPORT (CROSS-TRAINING PROVIDED)

• Purchasing: vendor purchase orders, matching packing slips to invoices and statements, shipment tracking, setting up net 30 accounts

• Facility & shop: electrical, backflow testing, fire marshal inspections, machine maintenance and calibration, air compressors, DOT vehicle compliance, forklift and safe shop tool operation

Candidates are not expected to know every item above. Strong CAD and Microsoft skills come first; the rest can be trained.

PREFERRED

Project management experience; custom cabinet or woodwork shop background; CNC or cabinet software (Cabinet Vision, Microvellum); ADA casework knowledge; field measuring a plus.
